ROCKY MOUNT, NC
In the design of this quietly elegant home in eastern North Carolina, Acanthus was influenced by a traditional architectural style, adapting and updating elements to accommodate the necessities of a modern lifestyle. The end result is an inviting home that is sophisticated yet intimate.
Low site walls and a freestanding garage define without overwhelming a gracious arrival court paved with granite blocks. The simple building volumes are composed of cream colored stucco plaster walls supporting steeply sloping cedar shingled hip roofs with flared eaves.
A U-shaped plan engages a raised limestone rear terrace and permits all principal interior spaces to share in the charming garden views. High walls projecting from the master dressing room conceal a private lap pool.
The interior is notable for a sense of movement and connectedness. The rich palate of materials includes quarter sawn white oak floors laid in a graceful herringbone pattern, full height glazed paneling with custom molding profiles, and arched mahogany casement windows with bronze cremone bolt locking hardware.
